Firefighters and state police respond to a burned home in Greenville, New York

GREENVILLE, NY — New York State Police are searching for 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan after his father was found dead inside a burning home in Orange County, officials said. Investigators say the case began Thursday evening when crews were sent to a house on Greenville Turnpike around 7:30 p.m.

Police said the fire was still being fought when firefighters found Robert Ryan, 70, inside the home. State police believe he was killed before the house was intentionally set on fire. Authorities said Thomas David Ryan is wanted in connection with his father’s death.

What Police Say

According to state police, Ring camera video obtained by ABC News appears to show the younger Ryan running from the property. Police said he was last seen near Greenville Turnpike wearing a black T-shirt and black sweatpants.

Investigators also believe he may be driving a 2016 gray Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671. Police have described him as armed and dangerous. They urged the public not to approach him and to call 911 if he is spotted.

Family And Case Background

The case has drawn attention because of the family connection and because police say the fire may have been used to hide what happened inside the home. Ryan’s sister, Stephanie Coiro, said her father had helped his son that day after he told him he was in Plattsburgh and had lost his bus ticket.

Coiro also said the family had worried for years about her brother’s mental health and had tried to get him help. In her account, he had been in and out of prison, though the police statements in this case focus on the manhunt and the death investigation rather than any broader background.

Search And Next Steps

Police said Thomas David Ryan has seven prior arrests in New York City and is on probation until April 2028. Those details were included by investigators as they asked for help finding him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300. Officials have not said whether charges have been filed, and they have not released any court date in the case.
