Round Rock, Texas, native Tarini Nandakumar will advance as a finalist in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Nandakumar, age 12, is the sole remaining Texan in the competition. She secured her spot in the finals by correctly spelling the word “papaloi” in the eighth round. According to the Bee’s official website, Nandakumar previously competed in 2021 and 2022.
Nandakumar is competing as Speller 192. The speller’s favorite food is pizza, her favorite sport is badminton and her hobbies include singing and playing with her pets. She is sponsored by Sweet Success ATX in Austin, Texas.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee finals will air live on ION Television Thursday, June 1, at 8 p.m. EST.
